15% Fare Reduction: We took a big risk; we don’t expect any immediate reduction after GPRTU

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro, has cautioned that the 15% fare reduction, effective May 24, is a significant risk taken by the union.

In an interview with Woezor TV on Tuesday, May 20, Mr. Moro explained that the reduction is a third of the 18% decrease in fuel prices.

He emphasized that despite this reduction, other components contributing to fare prices remain unchanged.

Mr. Moro warned that Ghanaians should not expect further fare reductions, even if other components decrease in price.

“We took the risk of factoring future reductions into it. So this is a risk that we have taken, I see. So it means that we should not expect any reduction going forward”

The GPRTU’s decision to reduce fares by 15% is a bold move, but Mr. Moro’s caution suggests that the union is aware of the potential risks involved.

The GPRTU announced on Monday, May 19, a 15% reduction in transport fares, effective Saturday, May 24, 2025.

This decision, they said, follows a meeting between the union’s national executives and the minister of transport.

The Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Abbas Ibrahim Moro, confirmed the development in an interview with Woezor TV, emphasizing their contribution to the resetting agenda of the government.
