2024 Elections: Anyaa-Sowutuom MP reveals NPP candidates spent an average of GH₵10 million each.

Anyaa-Sowutuom Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has revealed that candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) spent an average of GH₵10 million each in their campaigns for the 2024 general elections. This disclosure emphasizes the immense financial costs associated with running for political office in Ghana, especially in competitive constituencies like Anyaa-Sowutuom.

Dr. Adomako Kissi, who was the incumbent MP, pointed out that the large sums of money spent reflect the high level of competition and the resources required to engage voters and gain support. Despite his efforts, he lost his bid in the NPP’s primary to Elder Emmanuel Tobbin, who subsequently secured the parliamentary seat in the national election.

The hefty campaign expenditures have sparked concerns about the role of money in Ghanaian politics, with critics suggesting that such financial barriers may exclude capable candidates without significant resources. This raises broader questions about the accessibility of political positions and the need for reforms to ensure a more inclusive political system  .
