Herbert Krapa gets Appointed as New Energy Minister by Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has officially instated Herbert Krapa as the new Minister for Energy, starting Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

The announcement of his appointment was made public by the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin, in a statement released on November 20, 2024.

Before stepping into his new role, Herbert Krapa held the position of Minister of State at the Energy Ministry from July 15, 2024, until his official elevation to Energy Minister.

President Akufo-Addo expressed that Herbert’s appointment stemmed from his “exemplary diligence, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his responsibilities, which have greatly advanced the progress and stability of Ghana’s energy landscape.”

“In acknowledgment of his tireless efforts and leadership, President Akufo-Addo firmly believes that Mr. Krapa will continue to excel in his new position, fostering ongoing growth and transformation within the energy sector for the benefit of the nation,” the statement elaborated.

He also held the role of Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry from 2021 to 2023 after serving as the Government Spokesperson on Governance and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Information from 2018 to 2020.

Herbert Krapa was admitted to the Ghana Bar in 2017, acquiring expertise in Trade and Investment Law, Commercial Law, Debt Restructuring, and more.

He previously practiced law at Africa Legal Associates, a prominent law firm in Ghana.

Krapa earned his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Ghana and went on to obtain a Master of Laws Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, where he focused on International Finance, Secured Financing, International Commercial Arbitration, and Corporate Crime.

Additionally, he possesses a Master of Science Degree in Development Finance from the University of Ghana Business School and a Certificate in Human Rights Law from Fordham University in New York.
