The Ghana Federation Of Disability Organisations To Meet With The Electoral Commission To Advocate For Greater Electoral Inclusion

The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) is set to meet with the Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, to advocate for enhanced electoral inclusion for Persons with Disabilities in the forthcoming general elections.
This important meeting will take place at the EC’s headquarters and will focus on assessing the Commission’s provisions for Persons with Disabilities while presenting key recommendations to ensure that electoral processes are accessible and inclusive.
The GFD delegation will include representatives from Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), civil society partners, and allied organizations. Their aim is to evaluate current measures and identify gaps that may impede the full participation of Persons with Disabilities in electoral activities.
This engagement is a crucial part of the GFD’s broader advocacy efforts to uphold the electoral rights of all Ghanaians, irrespective of their abilities.
In the past, the GFD has made significant recommendations to the EC to enhance inclusive electoral services, including the provision of tactile ballot guides for visually impaired voters and the establishment of polling stations equipped with ramps.
The upcoming meeting will serve as an opportunity to review progress and share the GFD’s monitoring reports in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Additionally, the GFD plans to make important announcements regarding the participation of the disability community in the December elections.
The GFD is optimistic about creating more inclusive opportunities for eligible voters with disabilities in Ghana, allowing them to exercise their right to vote with ease and dignity on December 7, 2024.
