President-Elect John Mahama’s Christmas Message to Ghanaians

John Mahama President elect has in a Christmas message to Ghanaians reaffirmed his commitment to building an inclusive and prosperous nation. His speech was laced with hope, reflection and renewed inspiration as the nation paid tribute to the festive season.

In his Christmas message, Mahana wished Ghanaians happy Christmas, adding ‘Two years have passed since that tragic night in which so many dear people went to their eternal rest and the sad Biblical analogy of man having left the farm to wander up and down and become exposed to danger is as real as it can be’. Referring to the life of Jesus Christ, the former draped the issue of national building in terms of values of service, compassion, and justice that he said were crucial.

“The season of hope and renewed inspiration is Christmas,” Mahama said. “On this day of the birth of Jesus Christ, the values of whose life are worth celebrating, I extend them all thanks for selecting me to serve as your President and Commander-in-Chief of our one Ghana Armed Forces.”

President elect used this occasion to reaffirm what his vision for Ghana is about. He promised democratic state based on freedom, justice, accountability and equal opportunities.

“I hope at the same time to reaffirm my determination to build a nation for all, a nation not for the advantage of a few but where all shall thrive everyday; a nation that is progressive and democratic and is anchored in the principles of freedom, justice, accountability and equal opportunity for all.”

Mahama stressed that the need to be inspired by Jesus Christ’s life, who taught such values that could build Ghana stronger and united should be drawn. If Ghanaians can collaborate in service, compassion and justice, they can add their part to national development and progress, he adds.

“It is for that reason that we should follow the example of Christ’s life whose service, compassion and justice in nation building are demonstrated,” he said.

In a tribute to the people of Ghana whom he said, ‘entrusted you with leadership’, Mahama pledged that he ‘shall be committed in serving every Ghanaian’. He acknowledged the diversity among the nation and asked for unity to be a foundation for achieving the common goals.

The President elect also continued to believe in the power of democracy to transform the country and build an system that delivers fairness and equal opportunity for all.

As John Mahama contours his Christmas message on the attainment of the same focused on a leadership style based on inclusivity, accountability and hope, he will be bringing that traditional leadership style to office. His promise to draw from the very spirit of an inclusive nation of us united by shared values and mutual respect is a reflection of his view of nation, and his view of an inclusive nation.
