Over 1, 300 Students Enrolled into CKT-UTAS Amid Infrastructure Challenges

Professor Albert Luguterah, the Vice-Chancellor of the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, formerly the Navrongo Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has bemoaned the infrastructure deficit of the university despite the introduction of new programs.

Speaking at the 5th Matriculation ceremony of the university, where 1,389 students were officially admitted for the 2024/2025 academic year, Prof. Luguterah expressed concern about the resource strain, incomplete GETFund projects, and inadequate accommodation.

Formerly known as the Navrongo Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), this institution has produced many graduates who contribute to the country’s human resources.

However, its infrastructure has not developed significantly to match the introduction of new academic programs and the growing number of students.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Albert Luguterah, expressed concern about the situation.

“In the 2023-2024 academic year, the university received accreditation to run the BSC General Nursing, BSC Pediatric Nursing, and BSC Medical Laboratory Science program, and this year we also received professional accreditation to do the BSC Midwifery program as well”, the Vice Chancellor said.

He added, “The university faces infrastructure challenges, but management is actively addressing them. Despite the growth in student numbers, we are taking urgent steps to temporarily solve the inadequate lecture halls and furniture while gathering resources for permanent solutions. We also aspire to house most first-year students in university-owned accommodations but are currently hindered by infrastructure deficits.”

“As a Technology and Applied Sciences University, well-equipped laboratories for practical work and simulations are essential. We appeal to the Government to complete all GETFund projects on our campus and consider our critical and peculiar critic infrastructure needs when allocating resources.”

Prof. Luguterah said despite these challenges, the university authorities would continue to ensure that students get the best training and leave the institution as well-rounded individuals.

“Our faculty and support staff are among the best, and I encourage you to focus on your training and become competitive graduates, despite our current infrastructure challenges. You may not have the benefit of beautiful scenery or elaborate facilities for nice pictures, but I assure you that by the time you complete, you will be well-rounded and ready to compete with anyone in the world, as our products have shown.”

The newly admitted students were optimistic about the quality of education they would get at the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences.
