Zorkor Rainstorm: Residents Lament Over One Week Of Power Outage

Residents of Zokor have expressed frustration that electricity remains out in parts of their community, following a rainstorm that destroyed properties, displaced residents, and left the area in darkness last week.

Speaking with some business people and residents of Goo, Kanga, and Atiabiisi, which are subcommunities under Zorkor, on Sunday, 16th April 2025, Xtrememediaonline found out that power has still not been restored to some areas of the community.

With the exception of the market area, many parts of the Kanga electoral area are still in darkness, and from all indications and observations, the Kanga community remains the worst-stricken community as of now, but all efforts to get the Assemblyman to speak on the issue have failed as his phone number has been off.

Some community members living near Balungo and Lungu have revealed that they go to these neighboring areas to charge their mobile phones.

The St. Theresa Healthcare Center is the main health facility in Zorkor, and the center remains without electricity. A patient at the health center who wished to remain anonymous explained that they were supposed to conduct some tests for their treatment, but the absence of electricity has made it impossible for them to undertake the particular test they were supposed to do, which is affecting their treatment.

“My daughter has been sick for some days now. Yesterday, they told us that we were supposed to do a particular test, of which I don’t know the name, but when we got to the lab technician, we were told that they would not be able to do the test because there were no lights. One of the nurses told me that they would have to refer us to either Bongo or Bolga”,” she stated.

The Assemblyman for Goo Electoral Area, Hon. Fuseini Nbire, stated that the power situation has affected business and other activities within the community, but he assured that community leaders are proactively working to address the issue and restore normalcy.

He also added that lights have been restored to many parts of the community, while the remaining areas are expected to be restored by the end of the day on Monday, 17th April, 2025.

“The people of Goo have gone through lots of troubles with regards to the power situation, but a lot has been done to salvage the situation, but I think the Electricity Company of Ghana has taken us for granted: you have been taking bills from the people all the time, and whenever anybody fails to pay his/her bill, you take actions on the person, and yet when situations like this occur, you fail to take swift actions to help them. Something must be done to stop this,” he concluded.

In a similar note, the Assemblyman for the Tarongo-Atiabiisi electoral area, Hon. Abire Peter, stated that most parts of Tarongo and Atiabiisi have been restored to the national grid except a few areas around the St. Theresa side, and they are working hard to ensure that the situation is put under control.
