Akufo-Addo’s ‘misguided’ attacks on Mahama won’t make Bawumia president – Bawah Mogtari

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, has replied to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks on the previous president’s position on unlawful small-scale mining.

During his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Northeast Region on Tuesday, October 15, President Akufo-Addo urged Mahama to clarify his stand on the galamsey problem. The president said Mahama made contradictory claims, stating, “He speaks from one corner of his mouth and from another corner of his mouth.” Akufo-Addo also chastised Mahama for implying during the 2020 election campaign that the NDC will overturn the present government’s fight on galamsey and maybe release those already jailed for similar crimes.

President Akufo-Addo stressed that he endangered his political future by adopting a firm position against galamsey, which he blamed for the NPP’s poor performance in mining areas during the 2020 election, notably in the Western Region.
Mogtari in response turned to her X page (previously Twitter) to chastise Akufo-Addo’s statements, saying, “Desperate Nana Akufo-Addo should know that his misguided attacks on John Mahama will not make Dr. Bawumia President.”
