Former NSB Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahene to Face Court by Next Week

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has announced plans to put Former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahene before the court by next week.

He says initially, the Attorney General’s office intended to proceed with the case on Monday, March 24, 2025, but encountered difficulties in arresting Adu Boahene due to his possession of multiple Ghanaian passports and suspected acquisition of other nationalities.

Speaking on Woezor TV on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Srem-Sai, said Adu Boahene’s ability to cross borders quickly has hindered efforts to apprehend him.

“We had wanted to go court yesterday, but intelligence we received indicated that the gentleman has multiple Ghanaian passports and we also suspect that he might also acquire other nationalities”.

“We expected him to land in Ghana on Friday at 2 pm, (but) when the plane took off, we realized that he was not on the flight and that follows several other similar changes he had made over the period”. Then eventually we scanned and realized that there was one Adu Boahene sitting on British Airways coming on Thursday instead of Friday and the name is no longer Kwabena Adu Boahene but rather “O”

Background

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, in a press briefing on Monday, March 24, disclosed that the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, was arrested in connection with a controversial $7 million cyber defense system contract which was diverted into his private account.

According to Dr. Ayine, the arrest was linked to alleged financial misconduct involving the transfer of public funds intended for the procurement of cybersecurity infrastructure.

Ayine said the contract was valued at $7 million, with the objective of strengthening Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats, data breaches, and digital espionage.
