Health Expert Warns Against Wearing Hospital Uniforms in Public

A public health physician and researcher, Professor Fred Binka, has raised concerns about Ghanaian nurses and health workers wearing their uniforms in public spaces after work, noting that the uniforms may be contaminated with infectious diseases from the hospital.
Speaking on Woezor TV on Wednesday, March, 26, Prof. Binka emphasized that these uniforms should only be worn within hospital settings and changed before leaving the premises to avoid posing risks to public health.

“Today, you still see nurses and even doctors in the markets wearing their uniforms that they took to work. We mustn’t see any nurse walk anywhere in a trotro or a bus wearing the famous, nice dress. You bring whatever you wear from home. You have a small cabinet where you change into your work gear so that when you are leaving, you leave the infection in the hospital and not take it to your family at home..”
According to Prof. Binka, this is a critical measure to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Prof. Fred Binka also advocated for reforms in the healthcare system, including the strategic location of healthcare facilities closer to towns and cities.
He said this would improve access to healthcare services and reduce the need for hospitals in remote areas, which are often difficult to access.
