Police Launch Manhunt Following Shooting of Two Officers in Binduri

The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt for the robbers responsible for the shooting of two police officers on Sunday at Poyamirea, located on the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region.

According to preliminary investigations, the officers, who were in plain clothes and traveling on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri, were attacked by assailants who then stole their motorcycle.

The Ghana Police Service says the identities of the deceased officers have not been released as efforts continue to notify their families in accordance with local customs and traditions.

In an official statement, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen officers, extending her sympathies to their colleagues and friends. “Our hearts and prayers are with you,” she stated.

The Police Administration has assured the general public that those responsible for this violent act will be apprehended and brought to justice.

The killing of the two officers came just a few hours after a man was killed and his body burned in the area, further heightening fears of insecurity after disturbances in neighboring Bawku last week, led to the death of a civilian and the home of the Bawku Police Commander burnt down by angry youth.

It is even scarier for many, to think that these two incidents occurred barely 24 hours after the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno wrapped up his two-day work visit to the Upper East Region, following the latest Bawku disturbances.
