Government Launches Stakeholders’ Engagement on Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Project

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, has launched a National Stakeholders’ Engagement Plan on the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Project.
The stakeholders’ engagement aims to raise awareness about the incoming project and its potential impact on businesses and properties in affected communities.
The 1,026 km long corridor road spans across five countries, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast, crossing eight borders.
In Ghana, 32 communities will be affected by the project, making Ghana the highest implementer of the project.
The 32 Ghanaian communities to be impacted by the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Project include, those in Takoradi, Cape Coast, Saltpond, Winneba, Accra, Tema, and Ada. Ghana is also expected to have about 540 Km of road.
Procurement of works is expected to begin in 2026, with actual construction commencing in 2027.

Speaking at the launch in Accra , Hon Agbodza noted that President Mahama recognizes the importance of the Abidjan-Lagos corridor highway and its potential to create economic well-being, foster businesses, and facilitate cross-country movement.
He urged affected communities not to deliberately erect properties in demarcated areas for the sake of compensation, as compensation will be made to those affected.
“Government will never take anybody’s property forcefully and deny you the adequate compensation. But at the same time, let us be very measured in what we expect to get in terms of compensation within the law when we have that encounter with our communities.
“Furthermore, I am pleased to affirm the big push agenda of His Excellency President Mahama. I think this project aligns perfectly with his dream and then his determination that these things needed to be done more timeously than we have ever done before. For instance, the corridors such as the Eastern Corridor, the Western Corridor, the Upper Corridor, and the outer ring roads around our major cities.”
