A’City President Encourages Freshmen to Leverage STEM and Entrepreneurship for Success

The President of Academic City University College, Accra, Professor Fred McBagonluri, has urged new students to take full advantage of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and entrepreneurship to excel in their respective fields and to help prepare them for the job market.
Speaking at the university’s eighth matriculation ceremony on February 21 in Accra, Prof. McBagonluri stressed the need to embrace STEM, citing Ghana’s shift from theoretical learning to a more practical and innovative educational approach.
Professor McBagonluri also spoke of the university’s dedication to integrating entrepreneurship into their educational system, which will help ensure that students will see the opportunities in every course and project they undertake in the school.
“Our educational system, the way it was always set up, was to deliver knowledge and allow the kids to go out there and figure it out. What we have been doing here for the last seven years is showing that you cannot live entrepreneurship by itself. You have to educate within the confines of entrepreneurship,” he said.

He further assured to bridge the skills gap by making it possible for international internships, which will provide students with hands-on industry experience.
“We have a group of companies where our students get to do internships. We have Millersville University, Northern Kentucky University, and others. Every student is encouraged to complete at least four internships before graduating,” he stated.
A Level 100 student who is pursuing a BA in Accounting expressed her optimism, saying, “I expect to gain more skills to enter the business world and access job opportunities and internships that will help me solve real-life problems.”
