Appiah Kubi accuses Ofori-Atta of becoming overly arrogant during his tenure as Finance Minister.

Andy Appiah-Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, recently criticized former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, accusing him of arrogance and excessive influence within the government. According to Appiah-Kubi, Ofori-Atta’s demeanor created a toxic atmosphere, making him unapproachable even to fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs. He claimed that Ofori-Atta wielded more power than President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a situation he believes contributed to the party’s poor performance in the 2024 elections.

Appiah-Kubi revealed that over 90 NPP MPs, including himself, had previously called for Ofori-Atta’s dismissal, citing his mishandling of the economy and its impact on the high cost of living. Despite their demands, President Akufo-Addo chose to retain Ofori-Atta, a decision Appiah-Kubi suggests alienated constituents and harmed the party’s reputation. This, he argues, played a significant role in the NPP’s electoral defeat, with critics pointing to the party’s internal divisions and economic policies as key factors in their loss.

Reflecting on his own defeat in the parliamentary elections, Appiah-Kubi said his advocacy for better governance may have made him a target. He emphasized that he has no regrets about his stance and announced his decision to retire from politics, choosing to return to his legal profession instead. His comments have sparked renewed debate within the NPP regarding the party’s leadership and future direction following their electoral setback   .
