Beautiful Wives of Ministers-Designate Steal Show at Vetting

From the 5 to 6-hour grilling of Minister-designate for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, and Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the chaotic scenes that led to the destruction of microphones and furniture in the vetting room, this past week’s vetting of John Mahama’s ministerial appointees was eventful for the all wrong or right reasons.

However, the beautiful wives who accompanied their husbands to the vetting room to face the appointment committee of parliament also brought some glamour to the mix and got Ghanaians talking.

First, it was the wife of the Minister-designate for Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, whose stunning beauty was noticed by the MP for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib who is a member of the vetting panel.  

The MP remarked; “Hon. Murtala, you have a very pretty wife”, which drew some friendly murmuring and laughter from the rest of the committee members.

Pictures of Hon. Murtala’s wife later garnered a lot of attention on social media as her natural beauty and modest sense of fashion could not go unnoticed by Ghanaians.

Next was Vera Geroge, the wife of Samuel Nartey George, the Minister-designate for Communications, who undoubtedly got the widest trend on social and traditional media due to her husband’s acknowledgment of her support to the vetting panel.

When asked by the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, whether he had any sources of income aside from his parliamentary salary, Sam George responded; “My wife takes care of me,” with a smile, drawing laughter and warm reactions from the committee members.

Soon after, the nation began to talk about this statement by the Ningo-Prampram MP.

“My wife takes care of me” became a hashtag on social media as the men gave a sense of what they wanted in their partners while some women believed that men must earn it by being responsible and sensitive to their women’s needs.

Finally, the wife of Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also turned heads when she accompanied her husband to the vetting room of the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
