Dr. Amoako Baah Challenges NPP to Seek Answers from Supporters, Not Committee

A political analyst, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has asserted that the right people to clarify the causes of the defeat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections are the party’s supporters rather than the 12-member committee established by the party to investigate the loss.

Speaking on Joy News’s The Pulse on Wednesday, April 16, the analyst emphasized that the NPP’s campaign towards the election posed as though they had performed well during their administration, but their loss was one of the worst.

On this note, he believes that the ‘big men’ of the party do not know the reasons as to why they lost the election.

“Breaking the 8 means you’ve done very well, and yet this is the very time you did the worst. That tells you that you didn’t even know what hit you. If you knew the tsunami that big was coming, you would have taken steps to change it. Nothing was changed, which means that you were completely unaware of the anger of the people.”

Dr. Amoako Baah explained that the party needs to know the sentiments of their supporters across all the regions to be able to detect what went wrong for the party to have lost the 2024 elections.

“This is the problem; this exercise they did to find out what went wrong, it shouldn’t have been just one person. I know money is an issue, but everybody is responsible for one region. It cannot be that the Ashanti region sentiments are the same as the Volta region or other places, so that you have all the regions. Why didn’t it go well?”

He believes Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, chairman of the NPP’s 12-member committee investigating the party’s loss, is also responsible for the party’s electoral defeat.

“You come up with one person, Mike Oquaye, which Adwoa Sarfo terms as pretty much rubbish. And I agree. He was part of the problem. How then does he become the person to investigate what went wrong? Has he investigated himself?”

He noted that the NPP is not properly tackling certain basic issues that need attention.

The 12-member committee established by the New Patriotic Party to investigate its 2024 election defeat is currently underway at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The committee was tasked with conducting a thorough assessment of the factors that contributed to the party’s loss.

The committee had a three-month timeframe to conduct its investigation and present comprehensive findings to the NEC.

The committee’s terms of reference include evaluating the party’s internal electoral processes, assessing the overall campaign strategy, and identifying key factors that led to the election loss.

The meeting aims to chart a course for the party’s post-election trajectory, addressing pressing concerns regarding party unity and performance.
