East Legon Crash Update: Ghana Police Track TikTokers Over False Claims on Elrad Salifu Amoako’s Custody

The Ghana Police Service has firmly refuted widespread social media allegations suggesting that Elrad Salifu Amoako, a 16-year-old suspect driver involved in a tragic accident, is not in custody at the Osu Correctional Centre.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the police confirmed that Amoako, who was ordered by the court to be detained at the Osu facility on November 1, remains in custody there as of this morning.

The police categorically labeled these claims as baseless and false, emphasizing that disseminating such misinformation constitutes a legal violation under section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

To address the misinformation, investigators have tracked down two social media accounts responsible for spreading these rumors: a TikTok account operated under the handle “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook account named “EmpressPapa A-Amigos.”

The police have warned that any further propagation of such false claims will be met with legal action.

The Ghana Police Service urges the public to rely on verified sources for accurate information and to refrain from sharing unsubstantiated rumors that could undermine public trust and obstruct justice.
