Election 2024: I’ll Accept Results Only if Process is Fair, Transparent – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 presidential candidate for Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized his commitment to democracy by stating that he will only accept the election results if the process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner. Speaking at a recent event, Mahama reiterated the importance of credible elections in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic values.
According to Mahama, the fairness of the electoral process is paramount to ensuring peace and stability. He expressed concerns over potential irregularities, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to uphold neutrality and professionalism throughout the electoral cycle. “A free and fair election is the foundation of any democracy. As a nation, we must demand transparency at every stage,” he said.
Mahama also called on civil society organizations, the media, and international observers to play active roles in monitoring the elections. He stressed that their involvement would be critical in ensuring that the EC adheres to best practices.
His remarks come amid heightened political tension as Ghana prepares for a highly competitive election. Both the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are intensifying their campaigns, with economic issues and governance performance dominating discussions.
The former president’s insistence on a transparent process reflects broader concerns within the NDC about potential electoral malpractice. Mahama’s stance highlights his commitment to accountability while underscoring the stakes of the 2024 elections for Ghana’s democratic future.
