Feed Ghana Program: A Game Changer for Food Security—Wa East MP

The Member of Parliament for Wa East Constituency, Godfred Seidu Jasaw, has praised the Feed Ghana Program, describing it as a transformative initiative that has the potential to revolutionize Ghana’s food security and the agricultural sector.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 5, the MP commented on the President’s State of the Nation Address, expressing excitement about the President’s vision to revolutionize agriculture. He noted that the Feed Ghana Program would be instrumental in achieving this goal.
“Mr. Speaker, this state of affairs is not positive for our country. That is why I was excited listening to Mr. President outline a number of programs that he intends to roll out to revolutionize the agricultural sector.”

Hon. Godfred highlighted the Feed Ghana Program as a key component of the government’s initiative, focusing on grain development to boost food production. According to him, the program goes beyond mere grain production and aims to establish agroeconomic zones that promote high-volume production and supplementary processing.
“Mr. Speaker, under the Feed Ghana program, he is also focusing on grain development. This grain development is not just the production of the grain but also situating them in agroeconomic enclaves where we will have real production in high volumes that will not just leave it at production but there will be supplementary processing of these produce in ways that will allow us to add value. to what we produce,” he stated.

The MP recalled challenges Ghana’s agricultural sector has faced over the years due to policy failures and external economic factors.
“Mr. Speaker, in the last eight years, this country actually spent, in seven years, 3 billion Ghana cedis reinvesting it in its flagship program in the Ministry of Agriculture called Planting for Food and Jobs. Mr. Speaker, we spent this money, yet year in, year out, the inflation of this country has continued to go up, and a chunk of the reason for the country’s inflation has always been food price inflation.”
He, however, firmly believes that after all these losses, the Feed Ghana Program will help bring the country’s food production on track.
