Commercial drivers in Winneba who rely on diesel and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) have expressed concerns that the increase in the prices of these fuels negatively affects their business.
These lamentations follow the projections from the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), which revealed a marginal price increase in diesel by 3.00% and LPG by 4.26%, which was expected to take effect from February 1.
In an interview with Extreme Media Online on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, these drivers explained that even though the price increase may seem minimal, it significantly affects their daily income as passengers are reluctant to pay more than the previous amount.
The drivers are appealing to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to make a marginal increase in the fuel prices to meet their daily needs and prevent financial losses.
“We have no authority to increase the transportation fees. We have been looking up to GPRTU to increase the transportation fees to meet the prices of fuel.”

The drivers have expectations that the Mahama government will work to drastically reduce the prices of fuel so that transportation fees will be reduced for a better living.
“Increases in fuel prices affect us so much. I work from dawn to dusk, but by the end of the day, a bigger proportion of the money I earn is spent on fuel, leaving me little money to take care of myself and my family. The government should work to provide sufficient fuel,” one driver explained.
Meanwhile, drivers who rely on Petrol are relieved as there has been a decrease in its price by 2.93%.
