GRDICo and ECG to shutdown of some thermal power plants in Tema

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have jointly informed the public that due to a temporary shutdown of the West Afica Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) Tema Regulatory & Metering Station, certain thermal power plants in Tema have had to be shut down.

According to a joint statement made on Thursday, December 12, the closure has resulted in a power supply shortage, necessitating restricted load management in some sections of the nation.

WAPCo said in a statement that the temporary suspension of its Tema Regulatory & Metering Station was caused by operational issues at its Lagos Beach Compressor Station, which received larger-than-expected liquids and debris.

GRIDCo and ECG are hopeful that WAPCo will quickly remedy the issue and restore gas delivery.

“When gas supply restarts, power will be restored to all impacted consumers. “GRIDCo and ECG apologise to all affected customers for the inconvenience,” the joint statement said.
