The Ministry of the Interior has announced a curfew for Walewale and surrounding areas in the North East Region, acting on the recommendation of the North East Regional Security Council.
This curfew will be effective daily from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, beginning on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The directive, signed by Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, emphasized the need for community leaders including chiefs, elders, and youth to exercise restraint and pursue peaceful resolutions to the ongoing violence in the area.
The curfew comes after several violent attacks on the highway in Walewale town earlier this week.

Buses carrying passengers were attacked and set ablaze on at least two occasions, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, including an infant.
The attacks are believed to be linked to the ongoing inter-ethnic chieftaincy conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi in Bawku in the neighboring Upper East Region.
In addition to the curfew, a complete ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons has been instituted in Walewale and its environs. The government has warned that anyone found with such weapons will face the full rigors of the law.
Reaffirming its dedication to regional peace and security, the government has called on all residents to cooperate in restoring stability to the area.
