He has political roots in his family back ground; his father was a one time Member of Parliament and Regional Commissioner. It will be important to note that John Mahama was at first a teacher of history before joining politics as a Member of Parliament, thus, rising to be the Vice President. He became the President of Ghana after the demise of John Evans Atta Mills in July 2012 and went on to stand elections in the same year and rule up to 2016.
