The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, has raised objections to the election of Mathew Nyindam as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency. Wakpal claims that Nyindam’s election is invalid due to alleged procedural violations and irregularities in the selection process.
Grounds for the Challenge
In a statement issued on Saturday, Wakpal alleged that the internal primaries that led to Nyindam’s selection were marred by widespread irregularities, including voter manipulation and breaches of the party’s constitution. He insists that the results do not reflect the true will of party members and calls for an immediate review of the process.
“The election of Mathew Nyindam is fraught with glaring violations of democratic principles and must not stand,” Wakpal said.

Demand for Action
The Kpandai MP is urging the party’s national executives to annul the election and conduct fresh primaries to restore credibility and fairness. He warned that failure to address the concerns could deepen divisions within the party and impact its performance in the constituency during the next general election.
Nyindam Responds
Mathew Nyindam, who previously served as Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, has dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He maintains that his election followed due process and has the full backing of the party’s leadership.
“This is simply an attempt to undermine the unity of the party in Kpandai. I am focused on working for the people and strengthening the NPP’s base in the constituency,” Nyindam stated.
Party’s Position
The NPP leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, sources within the party indicate that the national executives are reviewing the complaints and will provide a resolution in due course.

Implications for Kpandai
The challenge comes at a critical time for the NPP in Kpandai, a constituency that has historically been a stronghold for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Internal conflicts and disputes could weaken the party’s position and provide an advantage to the NDC in the upcoming elections.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the NPP leadership to see how they will navigate this internal dispute and maintain unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
