Mahama assures that the Free SHS policy will remain intact and will not be abolished.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy in Ghana, declaring that it will remain intact under his leadership. During a recent meeting with religious leaders, Mahama dismissed claims that he intends to abolish the program, labeling such assertions as political propaganda.
He emphasized the significance of Free SHS in providing educational opportunities for Ghanaian youth, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Since its implementation in 2017, the Free SHS policy has significantly increased enrollment in secondary education, allowing over 1.6 million students to benefit from free tuition and associated costs such as meals and textbooks.
Mahama highlighted the need for adequate funding to enhance the policy’s effectiveness and quality, ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing education. His assurance comes amidst ongoing discussions about the policy’s sustainability and quality of education, which have been subjects of debate among stakeholders.
