Mahama, the next NDC government will prioritise universal access to inexpensive healthcare.

John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, has highlighted the critical need for healthcare reform in Ghana, pointing to increasing expenses and insufficient facilities as major concerns.
During the inauguration of a new maternity and children’s ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North, Mahama reiterated his pledge to provide free primary healthcare nationwide.
He emphasized the importance of making healthcare services accessible and affordable, especially for underserved populations.
Mahama stated that enhancing medical infrastructure and broadening access to crucial health services would be central to his government’s plans if elected in December.
“Many Ghanaians struggle to obtain necessary medical care, not always due to a lack of healthcare facilities, but often because the costs are prohibitively high.
“For this reason, among others, the upcoming NDC government, which I hope to lead, will focus on essential social interventions aimed at making healthcare accessible and affordable for every Ghanaian, regardless of their economic status.”
He also announced plans for a free sanitary pad initiative for all girls to enhance school attendance among female students.
“We plan to implement a free sanitary pad program for secondary school girls who miss classes due to the inability to afford hygienic pads.
This initiative will positively affect the health and school attendance of young girls, ensuring they can continue their education.”
