Mahama urges the people of Bawku to remain calm

the Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Mahama, appealed to the people of Bawku to be patient and restrain themselves as tensions mount with a likelihood of conflict. Mahama in a statement expressed concern over reports of disturbances in the area and called for calm, asking that violence be avoided. Indeed, he recognized that there were sinister forces out to fan ethnic conflict to serve their interests, but for the people of Bawku, he insisted on the need to avoid provocations.

He told the people that an NDC government, if elected, would ensure that peace and stability became a lasting feature in Bawku and its environs. Mahama had a message of hope and reassurance that the NDC would work on reconciling the issues that create conflict. He emphasized that peace is an important ingredient in development and urged the people in Bawku to have confidence in the NDC for change.

Of course, this appeal by Mahama comes at a time when tensions in Bawku have more potential to further deteriorate and affect the current electoral activities. In addressing the issue directly, Mahama aims to foster this sense of unity and calm in the people so that the energy is channeled into peaceful mechanisms for voicing their grievances.

That is a very important step towards ensuring a stable environment for the elections, in general a prerequisite for the wellbeing of the Bawku community. This shows that Mahama is committed to getting down to the roots of the conflict; it underlines the commitment of the NDC toward ensuring harmony and development in that region.
