One soldier has died with six others seriously injured in a devastating accident on Saturday afternoon, when a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) light armored vehicle crashed at Saka, near Zebilla, in the Upper East Region.
The accident occurred around 4 pm while the vehicle was en route from Bawku to Bolgatanga.
Witnesses reported that the armored vehicle was traveling at high speed when it suddenly lost control, allegedly due to a rear tire detaching.

Emergency responders acted quickly, and the injured were rushed to the Zebilla District Hospital for medical treatment. The soldier reportedly died on the spot.
Local police rushed to the scene, assisted in the evacuation of those injured, and managed the situation, which left the community in shock.
The tragic accident has reignited widespread concern among residents about the reckless speeding of military vehicles in residential areas, which has already led to multiple accidents and fatalities in recent months.

Last October, a military vehicle involved in another accident resulted in the death of a soldier. Two other separate accidents in January and February 2025, near Zebilla and Bazua, respectively, claimed the lives of two motorcyclists.
In response to these ongoing tragedies, residents are calling for stricter enforcement of speed limits and enhanced safety measures to prevent further loss of life in the community.
