
President John Dramani Mahama has announced the nomination of new Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) for the Upper East Region.
The appointments are in line with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act of 2016, which governs local administration in Ghana.
The nominees were officially announced in a letter dated April 4, 2025, from the Office of the President.
The appointees for the Upper East Region are:
- Isaac Azunaba – Bawku Municipal
- James Ayamwego – Bawku West
- Ariku Martin Akudugu – Binduri
- Roland Atanga Ayoo – Bolgatanga Municipal
- Jacob Abugri Aka-Eri – Bolgatanga East
- Akaseke Joseph Abaa – Bongo
- Akogti Solomon Ansoabayie – Builsa North
- Anne Musah – Builsa South
- Abaare Akugba John – Garu
- Faustina Akeyom Abulu – Kasena Nankana
- Stephen Aeke Akurigo – Kasena Nankana West
- Francis Tobig Yenwoma – Nabdam
- Aguri Haruna Abdul Rahim – Pusiga
- John Millim Naabwomya – Talensi
- Mbilla Joseph Ayaaba – Tempane
These nominations aim to foster effective governance and local development in the respective districts.
The appointees will have to go through a confirmation process at their various Municipal and District Assemblies where they must secure at least 60 percent of Assembly Members’s votes before they can assume office. They will then work closely with the assemblies to implement policies and programs aimed at improving the living standards of the citizens.
