President Mahama Urges Security Heads to Lead with Honesty and Integrity

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the heads of Ghana’s security services to lead with honesty and integrity, emphasizing that they should build on existing gains to transform the country’s security sector.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed security heads at the Jubilee House today, he tasked the Acting Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, to focus on remedies to deal with recent fire outbreaks recorded across the country.

President Mahama assured that his administration will provide all needed equipment to aid the work of the Ghana National Service.

“In recent years, there has been a rise in fire incidents. Homes have been reduced to rubble, businesses have been devastated, and essential infrastructure has been damaged.

“Last year alone, 6436 fire incidents were recorded, underscoring a foreservice that is equipped and resourced. Therefore, the Acting Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Ntow Sarpong, your leadership must focus on prevention through public education, emergency response readiness, and strict fire enforcement regulations.

“Fire audits must be effective, and safety laws must be enforced without compromise. You have my full assurance that this administration will provide every resource to ensure that the GNFS is well-equipped to protect lives and properties.”

On the state of the country’s prisons, President Mahama promised that his administration will also ensure that the issue of overcrowding in prisons is resolved. He called for modernization mechanisms to transform the inmate for their successful integration into society after their terms.

“Prisons should not merely be a place of confinement but institutions for transforming criminals. True justice is not just about punishing wrongdoings but also about offering a path to redemption.

“That is why the introduction of prison service parol regulations that will soon be laid in Parliament marks a bold step in ensuring that individuals who have demonstrated genuine rehabilitation are given the opportunity to be integrated into society.”

President Mahama urged the incoming Comptroller of Ghahan Immigration Service, DCI Samuel Basentale Amadu, to work hard to end illegal migration and other illegalities on Ghana’s borders.

He commended the successful works of the outgone security heads for their contribution to the nation and pledged to support the new ones to succeed.

On behalf of the security heads, the Director General of the Ghana Prisons, DDGP3 Patience Baffoe Bonnie, assured the president of his relentless effort to uplift the image of the security services.

She said the transformation of the security services remains paramount to the incoming heads, and they will not compromise on their duty. She said they will leverage their experiences to deliver exceptional outcomes for the country.

She said the security services are orphans who lack government funding and therefore called on the president for support in that regard. Notwithstanding, she assured that the Ghana prison services will focus primarily on the agriculture sector to contribute greatly to the food buffers of the country.

“Your Excellency, the institutions whose heads are here before you are often referred to as orphans. We are orphans because whenever it comes to the distribution of national resources, it looks like whenever it comes to us, everything is finished, and on this special occasion, we believe in the assurance that you have given us. For us in the Ghana Prison Service, we are ready to lend our support to the government and also assure the government that in addition to modernization and reformation, we want to place Agric as our priority. “Agriculture is our priority and to contribute wholly to our food baskets,” she said.
