Prez Mahama appoints 8-member committee to Review Ghana’s Constitution

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an 8-member constitutional review committee to identify and address the gaps and challenges with the implementation of the previous constitutional review work done by the 2010 and 2023 respective constitutional review consultative committees.

In a statement signed by the acting spokesperson to the presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on January 19. 2025, the committee is expected to present its recommendation for the constitutional amendments within five months for consideration.

The committee will be chaired by Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh. The other members are Justice Sophia Adinyrah, Prof. Karikari, Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, and Dr. Esi Ansah. Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya will serve as the secretary of the committee.

The committee is also expected to engage stakeholders to solicit their views on the proposals for amendment of the 1992 constitution and make actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing democratic governance.
