The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Dr. Frederick Appoh, has denied claims that the Tema-Mpakadan railway line is non-operational due to the authority’s inability to afford fuel, describing such assertions as false.
According to him, the Ghana Railway Development Authority is currently focused on completing all outstanding defect work identified on the Tema-Mpakadan Railway during the initial inspection, which is why the line remains unused.
“I want to use this opportunity to clarify this situation on the ground. Ghana Railway Development Authority will be operating Tema-Mpakadan soon. We are looking at completing all the defect works that we’ve identified through our initial inspection, which occurred on the 16th of March.”

He further assured that the defects on the train involved in the accident have been fully rectified and all trains are now in good working condition, reiterating that the only reason the line has not started is the ongoing track defect, which will be completed soon.
“We had only one involved in an accident, so basically that one has been rectified. So they are all working. They are all in workable condition. The only thing left for us is to do the track defect, and once the track defect and the community sensitization program are complete, we will then be able to start or comment on the service from Tema-Mapakadan.
