The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has announced the introduction of a digital ticketing system for the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
The new system, which is part of the authority’s efforts to streamline operations and reduce corruption, will eliminate cash transactions and ensure that all payments are made digitally.
In an interview with Woezor TV on Sunday, May 25, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railways Development Authority, Dr. Frederick Appoh, revealed that the digital ticketing system will work in such a way that “passengers will be issued a card, which can be topped up with funds using mobile money or at designated stations.”
“The card will then be used to pay for tickets, eliminating the need for cash transactions.

He assured the public that the system is secure and transparent, with all payments being linked directly to a controller’s account.
“This will enable the authority to track payments and ensure that all funds are accounted for.
“The introduction of the digital ticketing system is part of the GRDA’s efforts to implement the “Open Access Model, which aims to boost efficiency and transparency in the railway sector.
“The model involves separating the management of railway infrastructure from train operations, with the private sector being encouraged to participate in the latter.
