The Role of Sleep in Mental and Physical Health

Sleep is a top health pillar, and, as such, is critical to both our mental and physical health. Our bodies and minds need adequate and quality sleep, to function optimally, but it does so much more than make us feel rested.

Repair and rejuvenation happens during sleep as our bodies work to support a healthy brain function, immune system strength and hormonal balance. However, if you don’t sleep, this can create a long list of health problems, such as heightened stress, a weaker immune system, and an increased risk of chronic diseases.

Sleep importantly is a mental regulating factor of stress, performance in tasks and a positive mood. Irritability, anxiety and depression can occur because of lack of sleep. To obtain better sleep quality, you need to establish a constant sleep routine, come to a relaxing bedtime environment and follow good sleep hygiene. Sleeping right helps us become healthier overall, increases our mental clarity, and allows us to deal with life’s little obstacles more efficiently.

Sleeping, knowing it is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and making the time is a cornerstone of a good life in terms of our mental/physical wellbeing.
