UK-Based Economist Cautions Mahama Against Repeating Akufo-Addo’s Mistakes

A UK-based economist has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to resist any pressure to target his political opponents if elected back into office. The economist warned that such actions could replicate the alleged “sins” of President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose administration has faced criticism for perceived selective justice and political retribution.

The economist emphasized that a leader’s focus should be on uniting the country and addressing its pressing socio-economic challenges rather than engaging in politically motivated vendettas. He advised Mahama to prioritize policies that rebuild trust, strengthen institutions, and promote transparency in governance.

According to the economist, Ghana’s political history is riddled with examples of leaders who succumbed to external pressures, leading to cycles of division and retaliation. He stressed that Mahama has an opportunity to break this pattern by setting a higher standard of leadership. “Ghanaians are yearning for a leader who governs with fairness and integrity, not one who seeks revenge or perpetuates the mistakes of the past,” he stated.

This advice comes amid heightened political tension as Mahama prepares to contest in the upcoming elections. Supporters of the former president have called for accountability for perceived wrongdoings by the current administration, but the economist urged caution, highlighting the need for due process and impartiality.

The message serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering national unity and focusing on the broader goals of governance, rather than falling into the trap of political score-settling.
