Upper East Regional Police Commander Commissions Old Police Post for Use in Zorkor.

The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Raymond Adufiem has commissioned a police post for community security management to start operation in Zorkor, in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The construction of the facility commenced in 2012 and was completed in 2013. However, it remained unused due to the lack of furniture and other logistics until 2015-2016, when necessary provisions were made.

Speaking during the commissioning on Sunday, February 9, 2025, DCOP Adufiem emphasized that the police personnel are dedicated individuals who have volunteered to make sacrifices to serve the community. He urged the community to treat them with respect and dignity while they carry out their duties.

“I am struggling to get personnel to stay in the region because of our attitude towards them; even when our own people are transferred here, they don’t want to come, and yet people from other regions will sacrifice to work here; they are not used to our weather, food, language, and other things, and yet when they make a little mistake, we gang against them,” he asserted.

He further cautioned the community to know the kind of issues to report to the police.

“These people that are coming to work here are not from DOVVSU; they are not here to solve family conflict/conflicts between husbands and wives; they are here to combat crime and improve security against violent extremism,” he added.

DCOP Adufiem also pledged to get a motorcycle and a horse for the police that will be at the post to help them patrol the community and do their work effectively.

The Chief of the Kodorogo traditional area, Naba Victor Adindaa, expressed appreciation, acknowledging the realization of their long-held dream, and thanked the Upper East Regional Commander and the Ghana Police Service for making it possible.

He went on to assure the commander that there would be no land litigation issues because the land owners were compensated for the land.

“We also made a promise to the landowners to make sure that they will be the first to be considered if there is any employment opportunity at the facility since no amount of money can be compared to the value of the land that they are sacrificing for the good of the community,” he added.
