A seven-member panel, headed by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, reached a 5-2 majority decision in favor of Afenyo-Markin. In an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday, former Supreme Court Judge Atuguba emphasized that “In light of this ruling, Bagbin is required to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision.”
Atuguba pointed out that failing to adhere to the ruling could result in contempt charges, which may lead to penalties such as imprisonment for up to 10 years or a ban from holding public office for a decade. He clarified, “It doesn’t have to be a full 10 years; any term of imprisonment could be imposed, along with a 10-year disqualification from public office. If you are a president, you could also face removal.”
Additionally, Atuguba highlighted that the four affected Members of Parliament should return to the House as a result of the ruling
