WAEC Refutes December 29th Exam Results Release Date

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked rumours that results for the recently concluded exams would be released on December 29th. “Factually incorrect,” WAEC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. John Kapi speaking on Starr FM said.

Mr Kapi shed some light on the circumstances behind the spread of the false information on the interview. However, he said that on a visit to the facilities of WAEC by Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, observations were made about the operational challenges WAEC was having.

“The head of the office took the Minister around, showing him the broken down machines and others that were not operating properly.” But Mr Kapi also showed him a huge stack of unscanned objective answer sheets.

But he said there was no formal discussion about when the issues would be resolved or when the exam results would be released during the visit.

“So after the tour, the Minister spoke to the media [and] the Minister had actually been assured that results will be ready by 28th or 29th of December by WAEC,” he added. Mr. Kapi, however stated that WAEC has not made such a statement, this is not accurate.

He said the miscommunication had caused unnecessary confusion and anxiety among students and parents waiting impatiently for their results.
