Why Opposition wants to Become Majority in Parliament

The opposition in Parliament wants become majority in Parliament to try and have their way on key legislations and redefine the future of the country. The current opposition, led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), now aims to alter the balance of power through securing more seats in impending by-elections and challenging dominance against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
One of the main reasons the opposition seeks to be in the majority is to have a greater say over the legislative agenda. In the majority, they will now have the ability to block or amend bills that do not resonate with their party’s vision-particularly those of economic reform, healthcare, and education. This gives them an advantage in assuring favorable policies for their constituents and most of the populace.

Besides, being in the majority would give the opposition more leeway with regard to committee leadership posts, placing them in a better position to oversee the government’s actions and check the executive. This desire was fanned even more by the current challenge of the constitutional seats of the four parliamentarians since any adjustment in the seating arrangement may throw up the balance on the side of the opposition.
The stakes being high, the opposition is expected to put up a high-pitched campaign, as a majority may drastically change the political scenario.
