
Police in Wenchi, in the Bono Region, have shot and killed a suspected armed robber following a gun battle on the outskirts of the town. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 30, 2024, has heightened security concerns in the area.
Details of the Incident
According to a statement from the Bono Regional Police Command, a patrol team was alerted to the activities of a suspected gang believed to be involved in a series of robberies along the Wenchi-Techiman road. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers, prompting the police to return fire.

In the ensuing exchange, one of the suspects was fatally wounded, while the rest managed to escape into a nearby forest.
Items Recovered
The police retrieved several items at the scene, including a locally manufactured pistol, live ammunition, and some stolen cash. Other items such as mobile phones and personal belongings believed to have been taken from victims of recent robberies were also recovered.
Police Assurances
The Bono Regional Police Command has assured residents of Wenchi and its surrounding communities that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang. Officers are conducting a manhunt in the area and have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“The safety and security of the people remain our top priority. We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities,” the statement read.
